HAPPY 235th BIRTHDAY!!!

My husband belongs to a band of brothers. Though they don't share the same lineage, it's been stated that they all bleed the same green blood. Marine Corps green that is.

235 years ago, the USMC was "founded" by the Continental Congress. They commissioned Samuel Nicholas to raise two battalions of Continental Marines. He set up shop in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia where he appointed Robert Mullan, the owner of the tavern, as the first Marine Recruiter. The fact that MOBCOM's Ball was held here, in my opinion, was perfect. We didn't expect the Ball to be that great this year because MOBCOM has been bracking(not sure I spelled that right and basically in means they are leaving Kansas City and moving to New Orleans) to New Orleans for the past 18 months or so, so most everyone is gone. Despite this fact, it was really well done and a total success. Brandon was assigned to be on the cake cutting team and we thought that because of practice times and arrival times that it wouldn't work out for me to be able to go with him. He called me yesterday at 11am to tell me that the times had changed and that I would be able to attend if I still wanted to. Talk about going into overdrive. I didn't have anything. No dress, no shoes, no panty hose(LOATH them), nothing. After a quick run to Kolh's(they have NO dresses by the way, Target, and Walmart(the only clothing stores in Belton besides Goodwill), I was able to piece together an ensemble nice enough to "pass" for the night. I would have preferred it to be more formal, but such is life when you have less than six hours to get ready. I opted to not get my hair done, but I did manage to get my nails done. It was odd that it was held on a Tuesday night, but it worked. And it's not like the kids had to be up early to catch a bus. Though we were up well before seven...

The pictures of Brandon in the ceremony aren't the best. The lighting was awful for pictures. With or without the flash I couldn't get any good ones.

Oh and for the record, I am NOT as fat as that picture says I am. My mirror totally shows a different picture. And it has NOTHING to do with the fact that it leans REALLY far back. A warped sense of self is OK right???

Fall 2010

I hate that I've let the blog fall to the wayside. It was never my intentions. I blame Facebook. If it wasn't so dang addicting I'd spend way more time blogging. And I don't even play all those silly games it offers. Can you imagine how useless I'd be then???

In addition to FB, I blame other bloggers. I follow several blogs that are amazingly funny and witty. I feel I pale in comparison and it makes it difficult to want to blog. I find myself trying to write something funny and witty in my mind and well.....it never does end up that way. So for now I give up on being witty and am just going to post for the sake of posting.

Here are some pictures of some of the things the family full of B's and S's have been up to:

It only took me four months to get this post written. Slack.
